Museum Preservation & Maintenance

Often overlooked, both the museum and Fisherman's Cottage buildings were built in the 1880's & 1890's and are our largest artifacts. Preserving these historic buildings are center to our mission.

Enhancing Exhibits

To remain relevant with our visitors, museum exhibits need to be appealing, tell a story and also have digital components that are engaging to all ages. Our goal is to provide digital experiences that enhance and teach.

Growing Our Educational Programs

Education is central to our mission, for kids and adults. Expanding our current programs to include more hands on, interactive experiences and reaching deeper into the community is essential to our success.

Preserving & Archiving Artifacts

What is a museum without its artifacts?  At the LBI Historical Museum, we house over 5,000 artifacts that require meticulous archival information systems.  We are currently engaging in a many year project to catalog and detail each artifact.

Fostering Community

The LBI Community is a close-knit one of families that have early history to those that came here for the first time last year.  Serving this community with programs that foster learning and create an affinity for the island is why this museum exists.
